Colon Cancer: Bowel Resection - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This exhibit features four anterior silhouette views of the male torso revealing a schematic view of the colon and small intestines. In each image, the anterior (front) half of the colon is removed to allow for a clear view of the inner lumen. The following specific conditions will be represented: Normal anatomy with all the pertinent regions of the colon clearly labeled; Pre-operative condition reveals the ulcerated circumferential mass in the ascending colon, as well as the smaller mass in the mid descending colon; Intra-operative condition following the removal of the ascending colon and a 10 cm portion of the ileum. The transected ends of bowel is shown closed with staples. The tumor of the descending colon remains; Post-operative condition with the new anastomosis in place as the transected ileum is brought up and connected to the transected colon with a side to side anastomosis. The tumor of the descending colon remains.
