Fetal Distress - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This medical illustration series pictures the serious problems associated with the aspiration of meconium-stained amniotic fluid during birth, causing severe fetal distress. Two images are shown side by side, one depicting a normal, clear amniotic fluid; the other showing the amniotic fluid filled with meconium (fecal waste products in utero). In the second case, respiratory problems can arise during labor and delivery if the baby aspirates (inhales) the meconium prior to birth.
